Tapeworm Treatments & Prevention
What is the recommendation for treatment and prevention?
Medication which treats Tapeworm is highly effective, and is usually the main course of action to deal with this condition. In fact, once everything appears to have been cleared up, the return of Tapeworms is usually the result of a re-infection, not a re-emmergance of the old one.
As for prevention, the most commonly effective method is flea control. There are various products which can be used for this purpose, and it is best to control both the infected pet and the immediate environment that the pet is usually exposed to. This will give you the best opportunity possible to kill the majority of adult fleas and flea larvae. It also follows that appropriate disposal of your pet’s stools not only makes common sense for your pet, but a responsible measure for the area generally.
If children are in any way exposed to the infected pet (which is best avoided at all times during infection), ensure that they follow a strict hygiene procedure too, always washing their hands after playing with their pets.
To Summarise
Be familiar with the symptoms, watch out for any indications of infection, and control all the external factors which contribute to continued infection.
